The annual well dressing service at the central church in Frome will return tomorrow (May 28) for the first time as a big in-person event.

Due to coronavirus restrictions the big Frome event has been mostly virtual for the last two years.

The blessing, which is at 9.30 am at the bottom of the steps of St John's in Frome, will have music from the wonderful Frome Town Band.

Every year since 1985 the well is decorated with flowers and artwork to commemorate St. Aldhelm, the founding saint of Frome.

The service always takes place on the Saturday nearest to 25th May, the saint's commemoration day.

The well, used by parishioners over the centuries at the corner of the churchyard, was rebuilt in the 1860s and is fed from the Gentle Street spring which also supplies the leat ( the water in the centre) of Cheap Street.

St John's is also worth a visit, founded in 685 AD, it is now a Grade I listed building.
