Following the introduction last year of permit parking controls and a section of pay and display parking on Weymouth Road, feedback is required from residents and others who are affected, on whether the scheme should be made permanent.
Steve Deakin, the Parking Services Manager at Somerset Council, presented on the residents' parking schemes in Frome at November's Council meeting last year. A review of the impact of the parking changes on Weymouth Road was one of the outcomes of the meeting. Somerset Council explain that the changes in parking were part of an experimental order which 'requires that feedback is considered received before a decision is made whether to amend/abandon or make permanent the scheme within Weymouth Road'.
Paul Wynne, Frome Town Council's Town Clerk said: "As Frome Town Council is the owner of Victoria Park and Mary Baily Playing Field, we've always been concerned about the impact of the scheme on users of the park. While there is limited short term free parking in place, I feel that the scheme makes it harder for those users to enjoy the park who have no choice other than drive to the park from the other side of town, for example. Walking and cycling continues to be promoted but not everyone can do this. I think it's important for Somerset Council to hear views of impacted park users as well as nearby residents."
