Do you dream of relighting your independent, adventurous soul … lurking somewhere beneath the dirty-washing pile?

Frome business woman, mother and wanderluster Rhiannon Swannell has started an uprising of 'maverick mums' to create an African adventure for women to step away from their ordinary lives and embrace the ultimate in 'me time'.

You are invited to two open-evenings this month in Somerset, to reconnect with your independent, true self and join the uprising! (dates/times below)

Transformative and empowering, elephant-tracking, dawn yoga, campfire meals, sleeping under the African stars, guided trekking in beautiful terrain, songs and stories shared with local women giving a unique opportunity to discover there is more that connects us than divides us.… the 'Maverick Mums Matriarch Adventure' to Namibia is for mums, step mums, foster mums and grandmas who have an adventurous spirit and who enjoy the company of other women who feel the same.

Rhiannon explains, "I thought my urge for new experiences was just not being good enough at the 'mum' thing but I just had to get out and travel again and re-find something more. I'm lucky to have a supportive partner but for most women the issue is actually guilt at taking time for yourself away from the family. The bravest step in this adventure is getting out of the front door!"

Rhiannon was inspired by trip-leader, expeditionist , conservationist and TEDx speaker Catherine Edsell, finding common ground in their love of adventure as well as the limitations of the daily grind. Catherine summed up her frustration as "I wanted to go out and change the world but I couldn't find a babysitter."

Join group leaders Rhiannon and Catherine at either of their two open evenings.

Learn more about their experiences in Africa, get details of the upcoming trip and take the first brave step out of the front door and to bring your questions and your fears with you:

23 February: The Chapel in Bruton

24 February: The Talbot Inn, Mells

(7.30 drinks, 8pm start)

To join the upcoming open evenings please email [email protected] or contact Rhiannon via www.maverickmums.com

The trip is built around a sustainable low-impact model and is facilitated by conservation group EHRA (Elephant-Human Relations Aid, Namibia), an NGO promoting co-existence between local people and elephants in the growing competition for access to water. The EHRA Peace Project leader is also head elephant-tracker for the Maverick Mums making this search for the elusive African matriarchs steeped in education as well as beauty. A minimum £850 from each fee goes to EHRA. With the exception of donation to EHRA and a professional fee to Catherine Edsell this is a non-profit trip.

The next 'Maverick Mums Matriarch Adventure' trip runs 12-21 June.
