The Frome RFC 1st travelled to Yeovil RFC looking to continue their recent run of wins expecting a tough battle against their Somerset rivals.

Playing against the wind Frome started strongly and pinned the home side on their own line but stout defence kept the visitors at bay until No.8 Alex Mallon took a quick tap from a free kick to force his way over.

Frome College music students have been getting a master class from a world-class voice coach thanks to Somerset's pioneering music service.

Last month hundreds of children and young people at schools across Somerset were given a unique opportunity to work with world-renowned choral director Mark De-Lisser, who's worked with stars on The Masked Singer and coached singers on The Voice.

This spring sees some exciting new business-related events being hosted by Frome Town Council in association with the Frome Chamber of Commerce.

The 'Discuss and Do' series, which meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month from 6pm – 7:30pm at different venues around the town, is growing in popularity. Sessions covered so far in 2020 have been "Applying for business awards" and "LinkedIn Strategies that Deliver the Leads". Moving forward, the Discuss & Do sessions this spring will be exploring employing your first employee (24th March) and Podcasting – what's involved and is it right for your business (28th April); make sure you take a note of the dates, and look out for further details on the Frome Town Council website (www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/discuss-and-do)

Women's conference panel 2019

The excitement is building for the Women's conference being held at the Cheese and Grain on Saturday 7th March, 9:15am – 4pm, ahead of International Women's Day on Sunday 8th March.

The organisers are especially thrilled that this year they have the 'Women over 50 Film Festival' (WOFFF) as an exciting addition to the conference. Created by Nuala O'Sullivan, the film festival champions and showcases the work of older women on screen and behind the camera. WOFFF addresses the ageism and sexism many women face in the film industry and believes inclusive spaces to watch films together and conversations between generations of women can help make older and younger women feel less isolated and feel more connected.

Frome Town Council's Wild about Trees project got off to an incredible start with two tree planting days. Even the weather couldn't dampen the spirits and the turnout was spectacular; with over 500 places booked over the two days and even more people arriving on the day, the events were a true community affair.

With over 500 saplings at Birchill Lane and around 700 at Weylands, a variety of UK native tree and shrubs species were planted including common oak, rowan, wild cherry, beech, silver birch; as well as shrubs such as hawthorn, which will provide a good mix to grow into native woodland for future generations to enjoy.
