DEFRA released this image along with news about the central government funding

To mark the end of National Tree Week (December 5) the government announced a £3.9 million to fund innovative tree planting schemes which will see hundreds of thousands of new trees planted, including in towns and cities and near rivers to reduce flood risk.

Community nurseries, agroforestry and hedgerow management schemes are being supported by a £2.5 million fund from the Treasury and a further £1.4 million has been awarded to the Environment Agency to fund 'woodlands for water' – 15 projects to plant over 850,000 trees that will protect around 160km of river and help to reduce the risk of flooding to over 500 properties.

We may not have been able to have our traditional lantern parade to kick off the Christmas festivities this year but that didn't stop the community of Frome digging out the scissors, paper and glue and getting stuck in to create some wonderful lanterns that we can see around the town.

A total of 645 lanterns (so far) have been created from the kits the Light the Night team put together.

Great news, Father Christmas has asked the members of Frome Lions and Rotary clubs to help him visit the residents of Frome. Starting tomorrow evening, Friday 4th, he will visit Nunney and Trudoxhill. Because of Covid 19 restrictions his elves cannot collect money this year. Nor can they collect letters for Father Christmas but you can email them to "[email protected]"

Police have put out an appeal for witnesses after a delivery driver's van, containing over 100 parcels, was stolen in Frome last Friday, November 27.

At 12.25pm last Friday, the driver was making a delivery in Locks Hill in Frome, when a man pushed him out of the way of his white Peugeot Expert van, registration WU62 KUW, and drove off. When the van pulled away, the victim saw a blue Toyota with partial registration BU04 or BO05 which had been parked in front of his van pull away and drive off along with the suspect in the van. The vehicles were driven towards Styles Hill, Frome, outside of Frome Care Village.
