Taya Jones, Silver medallist, and team-mate Elsie Harvey, Bronze medallist

Gracie Barra Frome (GB Frome), a local Brazilian jiu-jitsu team, achieved their best competition performance at the inaugural Wiltshire Brazilian jiu-jitsu Championship Open. Children & adult competitors filled Grange Leisure Centre, Swindon, over the weekend and fought in hundreds of bouts for a place on the podium in the regional open.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a grappling form of martial arts that incorporates throws, takedowns, controlling pins & holds, along with submissions. Athletes are awarded points for advancing positional advantage over their opponents, or can win outright by preforming joint locks or chokeholds to achieve a submission.

The Frome RFC 2nd XV welcomed Warminster RFC 1st XV to The Lane on Saturday, and with the sun shining it was certainly set to be a perfect day for rugby.

It was the home side that took control in the opening minutes, a good kick return and ball retention, Frome gained a penalty just outside their 22, with Captain David Abrahams pointing the posts, Full Back Ben Eley duly converted.

Credit to the players for their perseverance and spirit

Frome RFC travelled to local rivals Trowbridge RFC on Saturday looking to gain their first win of the season in South West 1 East.

Frome started strongly but could not convert possession into points. It was the home side who were on the scoreboard first, following a penalty scored first when Frome transgressed in the midfield and Trowbridge duly converted the penalty.

Frome took the game in hand

The Frome RFC 2nd XV kicked off their Dorset & Wilts 1 North league campaign on Saturday when they welcomed Chippenham RFC 2nd XV to The Lane.

The home side started confidently and looked to their Forwards to put pressure on the away side from the start, with some dominant phases. Frome looked to play out from their own 22 and with the break down the blindside, they unluckily knocked on, and the chance went missing. There was a pause in play when following a tackle Captain David Abrahams left the field for HIA which saw a juggle around in the backline.
