Badger spotted on Christmas Day AND last night in Frome as campaigners fight to protect amazing town space

The campaign to save the last green space in Frome has an amazing army of allies - the badgers who live in several setts on the land.

As you can see this particular badger was spotted in the early hours of January 3, but the campaigners have seen several others, including a camera shot taken on Christmas Day.

On what has been described as the last undeveloped green space in Frome – tucked away behind Broadway and Oakfield Road - several badgers are living.

Campaigners fear that the space, currently owned by Mendip District could be turned into housing.

So now for the past year the Broadway Community Gardens Association has been lobbying to take on ownership of the land and protect the wild space for the communities of Frome, including the badgers.

Frome Town Council has already agreed to support the campaign for the transfer of the site to the community, but the Association is also hoping supporters will write to Mendip and to the local MP David Warburton to raise the profile of the project.

Once the site is community owned, the Association hope to set out a community garden creating an orchard, wildlife zones and, of course, plenty of room for the badgers.

The work will be undertaken by volunteers and Frome Town Council's park rangers.
