Appalled locals have called for a demonstration to halt what they are calling a scene like a war zone, as trees are felled along the railway line adjacent to Rodden Meadow.

The works, by Network Rail are being undertaken along Willow Vale as the company replaces two bridges.

But dog walkers and residents say that the whole tree embankment has been decimated: " Creating an image of wasteland" with a further comment that " if it had been raining it would have looked like the backdrop for a scene from The Somme. "

Nub News has approached Network Rail for comment.

It is believed that the reason why the work has been undertaken on such a scale is that they need access for a crane to carry out the lifting operations.
