The charity Friends of Animals Wales are being overwhelmed by the number of dogs handed in by puppy farmers and have now started an appeal to get dog fosterers to help out in Frome.

They are urgently looking for foster homes in and around Frome with the veterinary care being managed by Garston Vets.

The sudden influx of unwanted puppies has come as Lucy's Law came into effect which makes it illegal to buy a puppy or a kitten from anyone but the breeder, cutting out third particles – such as online retailers or pet shops

If you think that you could foster a dog (mainly small breed) please take a look at their website and complete the application form. HERE : which also gives more details on what would be required

Lucy's Law has been in force now since September 10 and the charity is expecting large numbers of dogs coming into its care, hence the appeal further appeal for more foster families.

You would need to offer a supportive home environment, with a safely enclosed garden and be prepared to have lots of patience. But you will also get lots of support from the animal rescue charity.

Ida who fosters in Frome said: "Being a fosterer for FOAW breaks my heart a little when the dog go to their new homes but my reward is knowing their hearts won't be broken again. I'm their bridge to a new life and it's never goodbye. Those dogs remember you for the rest of their lives. There is no better feeling than seeing a dog happy and healed."
