Having a baby is always an anxious time, but what about having your child while coronavirus rages ?

Jayde Lansdown had her beautiful baby Levi, by c-section in the Royal United Hospital in Bath and while, thankfully, he is a gorgeous and healthy fellow, she had a birth journey unlike any other.

For a start for the two weeks before her elected operation she was not able to see her midwife.

Jayde explained that her midwife had been unwell and was self isolating, but even if she had been healthy, all of the visits and maternity appointments are now carried out remotely if at all possible.

It was an anxious time for Jayde, who, while this was not her first baby, had suffered from such acute anxiety that she was medically advised to have an elective c -section - an operation she had booked for many weeks in advance.

Although she had fantastic support from her partner Ashley, she was doubly disappointed that her own mum couldn't be around to support her.

But as Jayde explained: " My mum is a key care worker so it was already impossible to see her, and it is really sad that with Levi now here, she still isn't about to meet her fourth grandchild."

On her operation due date, Jayde was told, that due to coronavirus all C sections in the Bath hospital were being brought ahead, cue another anxiety because she had booked the community transport scheme to get her from Frome to Bath in time for an 11 o'clock operation.

Now she had to leave the house at 6;15am.

This is where Frome Community Drivers stepped up, they rearranged her travel and also ensured that she would have the same driver to take back once the operation was over.

Jayde said: " I had pre booked the travel, but then I rang the community team and they just moved it earlier. They were super.

"My driver was Tessa she was so special, I was so anxious and she was lovely. Even afterwards I asked if she could pick me up and she did that was so nice and reassuring."

At the hospital, obviously all the staff were in full protective mode and again it was a terrifying wait while they discussed whether Jayde's partner Ashley was allowed with her to see the birth of their son.

As the photo shows, the theatre team decided he was and he was there to see a bouncing 7lbs and 15 ounce Levi arrive at 9.46 am on April 7.

"It was so important that Ashely was with me. He has been such a support, always there and so it meant everything for him to be there in the hospital. Thank you so much to the staff there."

But that was not quite the end of the story.

A week on from the birth and she was taken to Paulton to have him weighed and her checked, but again, all precautions in place and as little contact as possible.

And all her medical appointments otherwise have been over the phone.

Luckily she is healthy and so is her baby, and tomorrow (April 14), she will go under the care of Frome Medical Practice.

It has certainly been a birthday to remember for Levi, who for the moment, is completely unaware of the world into which he is born.
