The George Hotel and Inn in Frome on Market Place has put in a planning application to restore the front of the building to how it looked in the past.

They want to paint this :

It would mean returning the pub's front to how it was when the town was full of horse and carts, not cars and coaches.

If successful, The George also wants to remove the letters in metal from the wrought iron railings on the front of 5 Market Place.

The George has been in the heart, and hearts of Frome and dates back to 1650 and was renovated in 1874 with the balcony across the front added, as well as some attic rooms. In an incredible archive photo it was where the town troops mustered during the Great War HERE

The application. (under reference 2024/0043/ADV) is for" Sign written lettering to fascia. Renewal of pictorial to existing hanging sign, with gilded 'WADWORTH' to panel above. Renew existing paintwork."
