Frome stonemason Stephen Barker is rowing 500km for local charity Active and in Touch.
The challenge which Stephen started on 21st February will be over 100 days. Stephen aged 52, has recently lost 3 stone through following a healthy diet and a fitness regime. He started with a rowing machine in his house which has grown to a gym in his garage. Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Stephen made the decision to change his lifestyle and is now successfully in remission.
Stephen had heard about the good work of Active and In Touch through his local Frome Masonic Lodge and from a friend at Affinity Gym who told him how the charity had helped a family member.
Stephen said:" The last year has been difficult for many, especially those who are alone. I am currently raising money for a local charity who helps the more vulnerable in the community."
Tracey Rawlins, Community Fundraiser for Active and In Touch said: "I would like to thank Stephen on behalf of everyone at Active and In Touch and all the members who benefit from the charity. Support like this can ensure we can continue helping more people."
Active and In Touch support people who have become isolated and lonely through the circumstances that life has thrown at them, maybe caring for a partner for years, moving to a new area, mental health needs or just not feeling confident to try new things alone. With the help of volunteer befrienders the charity makes a real difference. Active and In Touch also provide Community Transport with volunteer drivers and a Shop For Me scheme.
Stephen has a target of £1000 and is already over £700, if you want to donate to this fundraising challenge click HERE:
