On Saturday Frome RFC travelled to Royal Wootton Bassett anticipating a hard game against the top of the table side who hadn't yet lost a fixture.

Frome started well with the Centre partnership of Zach Bartlett and Ali Frost combining well, however a turnover at a line out allowed the home side to break out and threaten the Frome line but stout defence kept them at bay.

Hooker John Benstead showed some skills following a Royal Wootton Bassett Line out, with Frome into the opposition half the visitors were able to steal the lineout with the ball coming loose Benstead showed skill to dot an accurate kick pass to the Centres who took the ball up to the deep into half.

The first half continued to be hard fought, but with the end of the half approaching the Frome pack carried hard into the opposition 22 after break down the Wing by Simon Finch. Second Row Alex Mallon thought he'd crossed over after a barnstorming run, but was held up short, with the support of Flanker Sam Bartlett who gathered and burrowed over for the first try, converted by returning Full Back Henry Bull.

The first half ended with Frome in the lead, but an indiscretion at the breakdown saw the visitors loose a player to the sin bin.

Half Time: RWB II 0 - 7 Frome RFC

Royal Wootton Bassett came out strongly in the second half looking to make the extra man count, and after several strong carries were able to score a converted try.

Frome, now back to full strength continued to dominate in the Scrums and were soon awarded a Penalty, which Bull slotted to  restore Frome's lead.

The home side continued to threaten and after dominant runs from their Centres and Back Row, scored a converted try to take the lead.

Frome rallied and following a planned Line Out move the home Hooker was adjudged to have pulled down the maul illegally and a penalty try was awarded.

The visitors were building well with Darrell Thompson orchestrating well at Fly Half, an attack at the line saw Thompson lift the ball back inside to Captain Geoff Taylor who broke free and get deep into the oppositions half with a 40m break. However the covering Full Back was able to get across and make the tackle.

Frome was now playing with an extra man and made this count when Back Row Josh Hills was put away in the corner to score his first senior try.

Royal Wootton Bassett continued to press hard and thought they had levelled the scores when their Outside Centre made a break only for the try to be disallowed for a foot in touch.

Frome managed the final minutes well out  to hold on for a hard fought win

Full Time: RWB II 17 - 21 Frome RFC

Frome RFC Head Coach, Dom Jones was unable to pick out one specific top performance, however the dominance from the Frome RFC pack were duly awarded  Player of the Match as a collective for their outstanding efforts.

Club Captain, Geoff Taylor commented "Id like to say how proud of the boys and the performance they put in, in all aspects of our game. We played great attacking rugby and our defence was exceptional throughout the game. Confidence is now building within the squad and we look forward to continuing to progress in the league."

This weekend Frome RFC welcome Corsham RFC to The Lane looking to continue winning ways.
