New rules are coming in meaning all cats will need to be microchipped and owners who do not comply could be fined up to £500 if their cats aren't chipped.

New rules introduced in Parliament last week mean that from June 2024 all cats throughout the country must be microchipped before the age of 20 weeks. Cat owners have until Monday, June 10 of next year to get their pets microchipped.

From that date, any owners who are found to have failed to microchip their cat will have 21 one days to get one implanted, or they could face a fine of up to £500.

The move has been welcomed by animal rescue shelters in Mendip, who say compulsory microchipping of cats is a great step forward for animal welfare.

So when better than for you to be introduced to Tazzy, a seven year old male cat.

The Frome and District Cats Protection group say: " As you can see he is a very handsome, calm boy that has been a bit unfortunate in life so far and has ended up in need of a new home.

He is a friendly, undemanding boy who has a good appetite, will rub around your legs, and purrs loudly when he has a fuss. Tazzy does suffer with a flea allergy, but as long as his preventative flea treatments are kept up to date, this does not cause any problems.

He has had some teeth removed and has been signed off by the vets, so we are seeking a nice home for him where he can settle in and get to know his new owners.

We would prefer him to be the only pet in the home as when he has lived with other animals, he has been stressed by this. We would like a home with a nice garden and some quiet outdoor space that he can explore once he has settled in because he loves to be outside, too. To stop him wandering back to his previous home,

Tazzy can not be homed in certain parts of Trowbridge. Homecheck and adoption fee applies. "
