A strange match for the Frome rugby firsts

Frome rugby firsts were in action at the weekend and remain top of the league.

Head Coach Toby Culff commented: "For very obvious reasons, the atmosphere this week was a strange one, and it felt odd preparing for an important league weekend in such extraordinary circumstances. Last week's postponement and an extended period away from our usual training facilities also added, I think, to a slightly out-of-sorts mindset.

"Having recorded storming wins in our last four fixtures, there was plenty of confidence but our usual edge and appetite were lacking. We played the 80 minutes with the handbrake on, really, and the stop-start nature of our performance, especially in the 2nd half, left us all feeling a bit dissatisfied at full time.

"I think, though, that it was just what we needed and that we'll be much better prepared for the weeks ahead as a consequence. It shows how far this group of players has come that an incredibly competent and comfortable victory can leave them so frustrated. Knowing them as I do, I'm convinced that they'll attack their preparation this week with renewed determination and focus.

"North Dorset are a traditional bogey-team for us so we'll be taking no chances and there's no danger that the team will be off the boil for a second week in a row. It's just not in their character."

Final Score: Walcot RFC 5 - 35 Frome RFC

Frome RFC currently sit top of Southern Counties South but with Grove RFC and Swindon RFC still with games in hand Frome we need to keep on top form as they welcome North Dorset RFC to The Lane on Saturday.
