Hayesdown First School in Frome celebrated its 50th birthday last term with week-long celebrations from 20 May to 25 May 2024.

Former pupils and staff, including two former headteachers, Liz Stokes and Sue Heal, and former student, Joyce Golay (85), gathered with present-day students and staff as the school marked half a century of educating the children of Frome.

The week's events included an aerial photograph, 'Bake Off' competition, "Amazing Hayesdown" exhibition open to all the community, commemorative mugs and a day of 1970s dressing-up on Friday 24.

Julia Battersby, Head Teacher, said: "Hayesdown students and staff made it a week to remember when we celebrated this important milestone.

"The children had spent the term researching the history of the school and it was wonderful to see them meet with former staff and pupils and put their learning into practice.

"Who knows they may be attending as former students themselves when Hayesdown celebrates 100 years in 2074!"
