It might not have had the mammoth impact of the shopping frenzy of Black Friday, but there was still a queue, in a cold Frome, outside the independent record store, Raves From The Grave.

They were waiting for a special record-only spin off from the retail frenzy and the shop was thrilled that, even though they have hosted the event for five years, this was the first time music lovers had been waiting for Raves to open.

Record Store Day is when special releases come out - only available in independent record shops - and within minutes three specials had been sold out - Paul McCartney's vinyl, Pearl Jam's LP and, the one wanted by the person first in the queue, a U2 12-inch.

Owner of the unique store on King Street in Frome, Richard Churchyard, said: "We didn't expect people to be queuing today, so that's great.

"They were obviously collectors just wanting that one rare release and they knew exactly what they wanted and those sold out in minutes."

Raves, which has been supplying vinyl records to a discerning Frome public for 23 years, welcomes any initiative which helps out independent businesses.

Richard said: "We specialise in the limited editions and we are not Amazon.

"We are something unique and that matters. What we need now is for those customers who waited for their favourite vinyl to come back and buy some more."

Raves From The Grave will be hosting a special vinyl-revival film screening at The Three Swans in Frome on December 5 with award-winning singer/songwriter and producer Ethan Johns, who has worked with artists including The Vaccines and Laura Marling.

Tickets from the shop, at 2-3 Kings Street, which is tonight (Friday November 29) open until 7.30pm for the special Christmas event.
