Frome resident Kit Sadgrove has called on Frome Town Council to cease its twinning with Rabka-Zdrój, saying it is hostile to gay people.

Rabka is located in Poland's Lesser Poland region, which has passed an anti-LGBTQ resolution declaring itself to be a "gay-free zone".

As a result the French region of Centre-Val de Loire has suspended its twinning with that region. The local county council, Nowy Targ County (Powiat Nowotarski), has also signed up to be 'LGBTQ-free '. Equality campaigners say 'LGBT-free zones' now cover a third of Poland.

Kit Sadgrove said, "I have asked Frome Town Council to request Rabka council to provide an explicit commitment to equality of sexual orientation. And if this is not forthcoming in 30 days, it should terminate its twinning arrangement and cover up the Rabka name on the town signs with rainbow stickers."

Kit added to Frome Nub News: " It is so sad that it any time, but especially at this time, that anyone should not feel safe about who they are."
