The latest coronavirus cases published by Somerset County Council show a total of 2,223 cases to the week ending 21 October.

That represents a rise of 217 confirmed cases since 15 October, but a slight fall week on week from 247.

This trend has also been reflected in the number of cases in Mendip. The number of cases per 100,000 has fallen from 47 to 42, although the dates do not correlate, with those figures from the week ended October 17 compared to the week ending October 10.

But officials are keen to stress to deal with the figures with caution, pointing out that the estimated R rate - the infection rate - for Somerset overall remains at 1.3-1.6.
