Day two of the trial of the teenager accused of the murder of sixteen year old Charley Bates has heard harrowing and increasingly urgent 999 call made immediately after the stabbing.

On the phone to the emergency services there were urgent pleas for them to come quickly to Radstock Library on the afternoon of July 31.

In audio played to the court by Prosecuting Counsel Adam Vaitilingam, KC, a voice was heard to say : " He has been stabbed. It's my mate Charley Bates. He is not ok.. he has been stabbed."

The call is then interrupted by screaming and and increasingly desperate pleas for urgent help. " Please hurry up, please hurry up. "

The call responder is heard by those in Bristol Crown Court promising that emergency services are coming, first three police units and an ambulance, later increased to 11 police units all heading to the centre of Radstock.

The call, which left many in the court room in tears, heard a impassioned plea, broken up by sobbing, telling the call handler details of the incident. The caller said that two cars had pulled up next to the bench on which Charley Bates and six of his friends had been sitting on in the park behind the car park behind the library in Radstock.

In the final moments the caller was heard to describe what happened followed by another agonising appeal for help : " Then he just collapsed... Char, Char.. Oh my God please help."

Later the same person, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to their age, was cross examined by Defence Counsel Charles Row, who questioned them about the bag that Charley Bates, known to his friend group as Char, had with him at the time of the incident.

"Isn't it the truth that you agreed that you would not tell the police about the bag... because you were worried about what was in it."

The witness, who was first questioned on August 2, said: " It was not the whole truth."

The witness agreed that the decision not to tell the police about the bag, which was later revealed to contain a knife and a BB gun, had caused a rift in their friendship group. Cross examined by counsel the witness insisted that Joshua Delbono said something about being a pussy, whereas Mr Row insisted the defendant said, as he was leaving the scene: " None of you touch anyone again."

Charley was knifed to death in a car park near the town's library. The defendant has admitted stabbing Charley but denies murder, claiming he was protecting a friend. Yesterday, jurors were told there was a "history of bad feeling" between Charley and one of Mr Delbono's friends.

Delbono of Frome has pleased not guilty to the charge of murdering Charley Bates on July 31 last year at The Street in Radstock.

The trial, which is expected to last between two and three weeks, continues.
