Dogs for Health (DFH) is a local community outreach project just started up in Frome to help socially isolated and hard to reach people in the town.
Working alongside the hospital and health centre, and five primary schools, the team aim to help at least thirty individuals in the first stage of the project.
The project is the brain child of dog-handler and a medical first responder, James Lewis, and health connector, Amy Wood.
Referrals will come via the hospital with Frome Community Hospital flagging those at risk of isolation ahead of discharge from hospital. Primary Schools will also highlight young people who live in conditions where they are becoming isolated and in need of support.
Dogs For Health is offering three main strands of support
- Animal Assisted Interventions: providing a home visit service
- Animal Assisted Education: school and group visits and pop up café experiences
- Animal Assisted Therapy: offering therapy work alongside the occupational therapy team and medical centre outcomes.
The group is looking for donors and interested parties to help run the charity and any offers of support. You can contact them via their Facebook page.https://www.facebook.com/dogs4health/
