A fire appliance from Frome was mobilised to Somers Hill in Mells following a call from the driver of a car that caught fire whilst being driven.

Luckily the driver was able to pull over and exit the vehicle in order to ring the fire service at just before midday March 3.

The driver confirmed at the time of call that the fire was under the dashboard.

On arrival the Frome crew confirmed the vehicle was well alight and set to work extinguishing it using two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet, before making the vehicle safe.

The Highway Agency were requested during the incident to deal with an amount of oil and fuel that had leaked from the vehicle, as well as dealing with damage to the road surface. The incident was under control in less than an hour leaving the driver safely awaiting recovery of their vehicle.
