The East Somerset Railway is on the lookout for new volunteers and is inviting anyone interested in getting involved to a recruitment day on Saturday, 9 March.

The event will offer a chance to explore a range of volunteering roles, from engaging with the public as a guard, ticket inspector, or platform 'meet and greet' member, to working behind the scenes in locomotive restoration, station maintenance, and signal box operations. There are also opportunities for those interested in helping maintain the railway's historic buildings, grounds, and tracks.

Volunteers can choose flexible time commitments, with full training provided. The day will start at 10:30am in the old Waiting Room, followed by a steam train ride and a tour of the site, where attendees will meet current volunteers and learn more about the roles available.

The East Somerset Railway, established by wildlife artist David Shepherd in 1974, is a well-known heritage attraction, offering nostalgic journeys through the Somerset countryside aboard steam locomotives.
