The new Prime Minister has today (September 8) unveiled proposals to tackle exorbitant energy costs with a commitment to lift the ban on fracking, something Frome is committed to not allowing.

The ban on fracking, a way for recovering gas and oil from shale rock, will be lifted, announced Liz Truss to allow developers to seek planning permission where there is local support.

The government will launch a new oil and gas licensing round as early as next week, expected to lead to over 100 new licences.

The Prime Minister told the Houses of Parliament that the energy price cap will be fixed at £2,500 a year for an average home fixed for two years from October 1 a move that is expected to cost in the region of £150 billion, according to the Financial Times.

Businesses will see their energy costs capped at the same price per unit - or kilowatt hour (kWh) - that households will pay under the government's new plans although that scheme is only due to run for six months.
