With little fanfare, new and revised plans have been submitted for the Frome mass expansion into what is now called the Selwood Garden Community Development.

Under reference 2021/1675/EOUT a new application is in with some changes since the last one, but still does not reduce the number of homes planned, and there are still access problems, say opponents.

Campaigners fighting the development say that in addition the application is on land outside the agreed development area for Frome, on the Town plan 2016.

One recent comment sums up general opposition to the plans : " It has been rejected once and has now been resubmitted with minimal changes meaning that it is still not an acceptable development. It is far too large meaning it will vastly increase the traffic on the B3092 putting at risk children walking to Christchurch school, it will be on pristine farmland instead of a brownfield site completely ignoring the green belt."

Comments are only open until the end of this month (September 30) for the the revised application which was formally validated on August 9.

in formal terms the application is for : Land South Of Frome Bounded By Marston Road, B3092/railway Line And A361 (Frome Bypass) And Including Land To The South Of The A361 Frome Somerset Proposal Application for Outline Planning Permission for the erection of up to 1,700 dwellings (Use Class C3), two care homes (Use Class C3), 6.7 hectares of employment land (Use Classes E, B2 and B8), a mixed use local centre for primary school (Use Class F1), cafes/restaurant and convenience store (Use Class E) and other supporting social and physical infrastructure (Use Classes F1, F2 and E), provision of greenspace and other supporting ancillary works. All matters (Access (within the site), Layout, Scale, Appearance, Landscaping) reserved except for four new vehicular site access points from the existing highway.

The earlier versions of the plans for the site show the scale of what is being proposed on the edge of Frome. See a map HERE

Campaigners fighting the plans HERE say developers " Just want to parcel up the land so they can sell it on for a tidy profit. The people (and wildlife) of Frome will be paying the price for decades to come. "
