Investigations are under way after a tributary of the River Frome was turned bright blue close to the town.

The Environment Agency are on site today (August 10) monitoring the situation, after it was reported to them yesterday.

Paul Gainey from the Environment Agency said they were awaiting the results of samples taken from the water, but the pollutant initially seems to not be toxic as they have not found any dead wildlife at the site.

The agency is expecting the results back on Monday, but at present it is not known what the pollutant is, or how it got into the water.

"A field team is on standby and a plan in place should the Environment Agency need to do any further clean-up in the tributary," said Mr Gainey.
