One and a half million souls were evacuated during the Second World War, including many to Frome.

At Radstock Museum, they are marking the anniversary of the first evacuee train with a series of tributes - once you have a valid entry ticket, the whole week is free.

Tuesday:

Watch: an hour-by-hour animated display on events 80 years ago and the outbreak of war.

Listen: audio-recordings of 'Berlin At War' the outbreak of war from a German perspective, read by our volunteers and by very kind permission of acclaimed historian, Roger Moorhouse.

Sign: the Peace Book, remember evacuees passed, write a message, make a peace pledge

Wednesday:

Listen: Somerset evacuee, author and British Empire Medal winner, Ted Marsh, will talk about his evacuation from Canning Town, his life in deepest Somerset and his post-war work in industrial relations. From 3pm.

Thursday:

Chat: former evacuees are invited to a coffee morning from 11-12noon: £2 including tea or coffee but please book in advance: [email protected] or 01761 437722.

Listen: on the day it is published, listen to extracts from Roger Moorhouse's new book, First To Fight, showing the Polish perspective of September 1939. By very kind permission of the author.

Read: letters from children evacuated to the area between 1939 and 1945 from the Somerset Archives.

Friday:

All visitors will receive an ID card, luggage tag and billeting address included with their ticket.

The museum's regular monthly reminiscing meeting, Memories over Elevenses, will have a 1930s theme and a picture quiz.

Saturday:

Local evacuee Audrey Gane reads from her memoirs from her days as a 'Vackie' (local nickname for Evacuee Children!) 2-4pm.
