Three cars were burnt, one destroyed in a fire in the early hours in Frome today (August 30).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call just after one am, from a member of the public reporting a car on fire at Spring Gardens.

One fire appliance from the local Frome control was immediately mobilised by fire control.

On arrival, the Incident commander confirmed that two vehicles were well alight and got crews to work to tackle the fire using a hose reel jet and thermal imaging camera.

The fire caused approximately 100% damage to one vehicle, 80% damage to a second vehicle and slight fire damage to a third vehicle.

They added: "Police were in attendance, however, the cause of the fire is unknown at this time."

Officers were careful with the wording of their statement because in May 2019, on the 29th, there was also a car fire in a lane at Spring Gardens, and that was ruled as arson.
