Super Roots CIC has teamed up with Frome Town Council to offer a free Go-Kart derby for young people and families on Saturday 31 August from 10am to 3.15pm

The event will be held in the Weylands playing field above the River Frome, between Whatcombe road and Welshmill Lane.

The event is aimed at children aged eight years and over (younger siblings are welcome).

Teens aged 14+ can join the "Tools & Decor Crew" (please get in touch beforehand) or join a team. The event is free to attend, but sign up your child in advance - link at the bottom of the article. All children will maintain the responsibility of their adult attending with them during the session.

The day offers a chance to get creative with scrap materials, work in teams to build a Go-Kart and then race their creations through a hay-bale course.

Ellen Vellacott of Super Roots says: "We'll supply all axles, wheels, wood and some fabric for flags, but please bring along any recycled or natural materials to add to your kart - imagination and creativity are KEY!

"No building before the day, which will add to the energy of scrap heap challenge! It's all about being wacky, imaginative and playful, with prizes for imaginative designs, comedy, creativity, teamwork...

"If you don't fancy building a go-kart, be a spectacular spectator! You don't need to build a go-kart to join in the fun. Just pack a picnic, choose your favourite team, and make some banners to cheer them on. With free snacks and plenty of excitement, it's the perfect day out for the whole family.

"Don't miss it - come ready for unforgettable memories!"

Supported by Frome Town Council, it will be celebrating the Frome community with group involvement from Shared Earth Learning, Frome Town Council, Frome Families for the Future, The Community Fridge, Edventure/ Future Shed and staff from Purple Elephant. If your group wants to be involved, please email [email protected]

Children aged 14 and over who would like to support a team can get in touch with Ellen at [email protected] in advance for 'tool crew' training, or are welcome to just come along on the day and join one of the teams.
