Free solar for Youth and Community Centre in Frome

By Guest 24th Oct 2019

The YMCA's Youth and Community Centre on Vallis Road, Frome, launched its free solar panels and electric vehicle charge point recently, as part of the town council and Iddea's Solar Streets project.

Solar Streets enables local households to install discounted solar panels and has been taken up by more than 60 households in Frome so far.

This will save at least 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year which is the equivalent of driving 243,000 miles or taking 31 cars off the road.

Fifty pounds from each installation has gone towards providing the free solar panels for the youth centre and £3,000 match funding was provided by Frome Renewable Energy Co-op's (FRECo) community fund.

Town councillor Lizze Boyle said: "It's fantastic that so many people have taken up the discounted solar offer so far and that the wider community can benefit from these free solar panels.

"The work that the Youth Centre does is vital for the wellbeing of the town and it's great there's a new electric charge point for the community to use now too."

The discounted solar is still available for householders in Frome and surrounding villages for the next few months.
