In a testament to the promising young talent of its student base, Springmead School and Nursery has received prestigious accolades for pupils' excellence in art and swimming in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) 2023 awards and South West Schools Biathlon Championships.

The Somerset school prides itself on fostering a well-rounded educational foundation for children. It weaves this into its curriculum through enriching sport and art programmes, and by engaging with regional and national events to celebrate students' emerging talents.

Attended by 45 schools, The ISA South West Art Competition was recently held in Cornwall. Springmead School students' art entries were awarded 1st place in three categories. These award-worthy pieces went on to compete in the National Art Competition finals held at the ISA Autumn Study Conference.

Springmead School has also seen success in athletic divisions, with four students representing the school in the South West Schools Biathlon Championships, the regional qualifying event for the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships. Three year three Students achieved new personal bests in the 25m swim and Springmead School was placed first in the team event.

The school ensures that specialist teachers, inset training and clubs allow its promising young artists and athletes to spend time fulfilling their passions. These community settings allow children to inspire each other, learn skills and hone techniques as they work alongside a dedicated teaching team.

Sally Cox, Headteacher, comments, "Our art department has been gathering momentum over the last few years, and it's a joy to see such talented young artists emerge under its enriching program. The children bring a beautiful eye and passion to their work, and it's fantastic to see their talent recognised by the ISA."

"The sportsmanship on show at the Biathlon was a testament to the culture we've nurtured at Springmead. We're all very proud of the students who competed, and the immense determination they showed," she continues.

Shirley Offer, Deputy Head Teacher, adds "The deep focus which students create in specific subjects or fields allows them to showcase their knowledge and skills in that area. By taking part in these events, children build resilience and develop a spirit of competitiveness – they learn to handle wins and losses graciously, overcoming challenges and persevering in the face of competition."
