Frome College raising money and collecting for Ukraine

Frome College has announced that it is collecting for Ukraine along with hosting two fundraisers.
The Principal wrote to parents and carers that as a college community it has a successful history of raising significant funds for charities and so it hopes to make a positive difference to those suffering in the war.
Firstly it has asked for donations to be dropped off in Student Services or the Learning Hub before Friday 11th March and will be taken to Bruton for collection and transportation by RAISE (Refugee Action in
Somerset East). Items needed:- New underwear- male/female/ child/ adult
- Toiletries- new and unopened
- Nappies
- Warm single blankets in good condition
- Baby milk powder
- Tea/ coffee
Fund Raising
The College also announced two events to contribute to Frome Town Council's Ukrainian refugee appeal.
The first a seven a side football tournament running on Wednesday 9th March costing £1 to play.
The College is also hosting a Sing for Ukraine, a singing competition with a prize for the student voted the winner. The event is held in
the Merlin from 3.15 - 4.30pm with a £1 entry to watch. Meantime social media is leading a campaign to boycott companies which have not yet withdrawn from operations in Russia. McDonald's and Coca-Cola are two which have been singled out on social media for failing to speak out about the attacks and continuing to operate in the country. Under the hashtags #BoycottCocaCola, #BoycottPepsi and #BoycottMcDonalds on Twitter consumers are being asked to stop supporting the companies and use their spending power to force the companies to change their minds. According to the news site CNN Apple, Disney and Ford, are scaling back operations in Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine while Exxon (XOM) announced it would quit its last Russian project, and Boeing said it had suspended major operations in Moscow. Well-known firms including Netflix and Levi's have already suspended sales or stopped providing services in Russia. Update Tuesday McDonald´s said Tuesday it is temporarily closing all of its 850 restaurants in Russia in response to the country's invasion of Ukraine.
