Frome fire crews were called by the police to a vehicle fire following a road traffic collision on December 15 in the early evening close to Evercreech. The vehicle had overturned and there were also suspicions that some body could be trapped in the vehicle.

Pumping appliances, two from Shepton Mallet and one from Frome, with the heavy rescue unit and supporting appliance from Glastonbury were mobilised to the accident in Stoney Stratton. An ambulance was also requested.

On arrival the overturned vehicle was well alight, firefighters deployed three hose reels to extinguish the fire and used hydraulic rescue equipment to gain access.

Fortunately the occupants had released themselves. Firefighters assisted the police by using a thermal imaging camera to check the surrounding area.

The cause of the fire was recorded as deliberate.
