Frome Town Council has been given an update on how work is progressing along the near traffic free route that is being developed to join Frome to Radstock - and beyond.
Most recently Missing Links has been working a cycle path stretch by the river at Whatcombe, and in addition to lots of manual help, they have had many invaluable donations.
Not only is the work being carried out by volunteers they have managed to re-use structural parts from other bits of the path, and have had a donation from the golf club Orchard Leigh.
Cllr Rich Ackroyd who is a trustee told a virtual meeting of councillors that " We are working all the time - and rely on donations - even the loan of a tractor was a donation and the cattle grid was donated by Orchard Leigh. These cost around £500 so thanks to them."
The pathway starts just two miles outside of Frome town centre and the route they are working on will carry on to Radstock and then on to Bath.
Frome Missing Links, which is now a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation has around 2,000 supporters and is now ten years old.
They rely on donations and volunteers but still have a shortfall funding of around £40,000. They told councillors that they currently have two active applications for grants; one to British Cycling for £80,000 and a further £12,500 from the Lottery Community Fund. But funding aside, their biggest problem remains vandalism. Cllr Rich Ackroyd told the meeting: " People cutting the fence to go fishing, walk their dogs, I can't explain it, we have people out all the time repairing the vandalism."
