Frome motorists are being urged to report so called crash for cash incidents after a reported rise in high speed braking of cars around the town by pass.

Anecdotal evidence is that such incidents are increasing and Nub News itself came close to crashing into a car which suddenly came to a stop on the Beckington dual carriageway, but the police say they don't have any specific numbers.

They have appealed to the public to report any dangerous driving around the town directly to them and not just post on social media.

The Avon and Somerset media headquarters told Nub News: "

We have heard of similar reports from social media posts. One officer has tried to find incident reports of this but hasn't been able to trace any – it is possible they may have been reported via other means, but without more details we are unable to find any. Our neighbourhood team has though been made aware of the social media posts. " In terms of advice, the main one is to report it to police and to provide any dashcam footage showing what has happened. The A&S portal for reporting all road related offences is here: www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/roads "

Meantime need for speed

According to the same press department there were no speeding fines issued by the local our traffic management unit for the Frome area during December 2021. But again reports of speeding and racing in the town appear to be on the rise.

In the centre of the town there was a speed enforcement unit(SEU) on the bridge during the month of January.

That has now been removed and when that analysis is complete, and assuming the data shows that it will show excess speeds, then speed enforcement will commence in the 20 mph zone .

Speed enforcement at Buckland Dinham with their new 20 mph zone will be starting soon.
