The local Frome and Somerton MP, who was one of those who spoke out against the Prime Minister's special adviser travelling 260 miles during lockdown, has said he is still getting 50 emails an hour about the issue.

Dominic Cummings held his own press conference yesterday (May 25) hoping that the issue would die down, as he gave his account why he travelled to his parent's home in Durham during the Stay At Home messaging.

In doing so he defied government advice - although he insisted he was allowed to travel - while he and his wife were both displaying symptoms of coronavirus. He told reporters he did not regret what he had done, nor was he sorry. He also revealed that he had driven to Barnard Castle - 30 miles from his parents' home - to check his eye sight.

Conservative David Warburton was interviewed by the BBC about the controversy and revealed his father had 'died alone' during the lockdown.

He told BBC Breakfast (May 24): " Although I do understand, we all understand Dominic Cummings' instincts - many of us are parents and understand his wish to do the best for his family - but we've not been offered the chance to interpret the rules. That's really not how it works, otherwise there'd be complete chaos." He added: " We've all suffered under the regulations, there are parents not able to see children, elderly people isolated and alone - people like my own father, who died alone."

David Warburton is today (May 26) still getting around 50 emails an hour about what he described as "double standards" leading his agent to tell Nub News " It's pretty full on."

At least 20 Tory MPs called for Dominic Cummings to resign.
