A grade II listed pub in Frome has been granted permission to reinstate the old rear access to the building.

A planning application has been given the green light for the George Hotel, which wants to spruce up its rear entrance, improving the access to the Granary Bar.

"The proposed refurbishment will reinstate the old rear access to the hotel - giving level access to the Granary Bar," the application to Somerset Council said.

"The small parcel of land to the rear will [be] used as a bin store with planting to the front with quality fencing to provide a smartened up rear façade."

The scheme will see the old wooden back doors replaced with wrought iron gates.

Meanwhile part of a brick wall will be removed to create a bin store at the Market Place venue.

There will also be a small strip of planted area around the fencing.

While not objecting to the application, Frome Town Council (FTC) has raised some small concerns over the scheme.

"FTC have no objection to the proposal, however, are concerned about the potential disturbance to neighbours," the council wrote.

The council has asked the rear gates only be used for deliveries and bins, meaning patrons cannot access the bar from the rear entrance.

And that Environmental Health ensures the noise levels are "not detrimental to the amenity of neighbours".

The pub reopened earlier this year following weeks of renovations.

Somerset Council signed off on the plans last week.
