Frome RFC welcomed Bracknell RFC to The Lane on Saturday looking forward to putting last week's defeat to Beaconsfield behind them.

The early exchanges were fairly equal but the visitors drew first blood taking advantage of the slope and wind to create an opening for their Winger, moving the ball well, to score out wide.

From the ensuing kick off Bracknell moved the ball quickly through the hands and their 10 identified a gap in the Frome defence to break through and release his Flanker to score under the posts.

Frome looked to rebuild and put phases together but another break by Bracknell saw them further increase their lead.

A fourth try from the visitors came when after an indiscretion at the break down gave them a penalty, which was kicked to the corner and their forwards drove the ball over the line, the fly half kicked the conversion from a difficult position to give the stags a 24 point lead.

Frome then started to put together the phases with the forwards lead by Captain Alex Mallon and Will Button carrying hard and putting pressure on the visitors defence.

A break by Centre Mike Rutt looked to have created an opening but the final pass did not go to hand.

Frome started the second half strongly carrying hard and creating opportunities for the Backline.

A break by Winger Bailey Rusz was stopped just short, however Frome were awarded a scrum five metres out and with the front row of Elliott Bowler, Matt King and George Benstead in the ascendancy they pushed the visitors scrum back over the line and were awarded a penalty try when the Bracknell Fly Half dived into the back of the scrum to try and stop the inevitable score.

Frome continued to press on well, and Geoff Taylor was stopped just short of the line.

Frome were awarded a penalty and from the resultant maul the ball was released to the backs which allowed Winger Henry Bull to spot a gap and break through the line and step the Full Back to score a superb individual try.

The Frome forwards and backs continued to work tirelessly and they gained further reward when Second Row, Connor McPherson broke through to reach out to touch down, the score was converted by James Howard to bring the score to 19-24 with five minutes on the clock.

The kick off was secured and a determined run by Button was carried into the heart of the visitors defence but the ball was eventually forced into touch to give Bracknell the ball and the opportunity to see the game out.

A turnover close to the line gave Frome the chance to build the phases but a knock on brought the game to an end and the final whistle was blown.

The players can be very proud of themselves to fight back against the high flying visitors, and will hopefully secure a win this Saturday when they play their rearranged fixture against Trowbridge RFC at The Lane.

The 1st XV fixture was the only Senior game played at the weekend, with Storm Eunice postponing both the 2nd & 3rd XV fixtures.

The Frome RFC 2nd were due to play Westbury RFC 1st, but damage to trees leading to the ground meant the game was postponed, other Dorset & Wilts 1 North went ahead with 1st place Trowbridge RFC 2nd losing to Chippenham RFC 2nd, meaning the Wiltshire side now only sit 3pts ahead of Frome in 2nd place, who now with a game in hand. 3rd place Melksham RFC 1st also lost. The 2nd XV are back in league action on the 5th Match when they travel to Melksham RFC 1st.

The 3rd XV hope to get back to games, as Huish Tigers RFC 1st XV pitch was unplayable following the storms. Both fixtures are due to be played in March. The 3rd XV are back in league action on the 5th March when they welcome Midsomer Norton RFC 3rd XV to The Lane.
