Many people in Frome don't even know the town has a band, hopefully that will change with a huge concert with scores of past and present musicians.

On September 12, up to 50 former and present members of Frome Town Band, at least one travelling down from Scotland, will hit the bandstand in Victoria Park for a special concert.

They will be there for a Tony Light Memorial Concert - again at 3pm.

Tony, known affectionately as Cuddles, who played trumpet and cornet for the band, died on June 9. During his years with the band he also took on the role of conductor and teacher of the then beginner's group, helping many youth and adult learners transition to the main band.

Today ( August 29) a few instrumentalists, including 82 year old Shaun O'Connor - who started playing the double bass when he was 16 - were polishing up their repertoire.

Coronavirus forced the band into outdoor rehearsals, to the delight of those in the park, and they hope to continue as long as the good weather holds.

Frome Town Youth Band was first formed in 1997 but today after a rename it accepts all ages and abilities. To find out more - and the upcoming concert click HERE : the Band's site
