By Frome Town Band

Last week we held our first ever summer school over two days. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to try the different brass and percussion instruments, we had novices, some beginners and intermediate players from the band took part.

The event was led by Chris our musical director and supported by two of our main band players June and Kirstie. Over the two days we learnt how to play five different pieces on different instruments to put a concert on for family: Bicycle built for two, Double Symphony Surprise, We will rock you, which the solo was played by a novice on the cornet.

To break up the day, we practiced rhythms, we watched a piece performed by the Cory Band, had to eat ice creams to cool us down, played ping pong and had a music quiz which the girls team won by a whisker. We even signed up two new recruits to join our beginners' band and looking forward to seeing them again in a couple of weeks' time.
