A goal for many years - Frome is restarting teams to get youngsters out kicking a ball from those early years.

Aimed at children in reception, and years one and two, the new squad will start next week and they are really keen to get as many kids involved as possible.

One of the organisers said he simply wants youngsters to have the same fun with football as he did.

Jamie Smart explained : " My son is now at the age to join and has shown interest in it, but unfortunately Frome Town Youth didn't have that group set up this year.

"So I have decided to start one up with the hope of getting some children there to just enjoy some football, make new friends and keep active."

Jamie has been involved in Frome Town Youth on and off for years. He himself joined as a lad going through with their U16's team. His older son is still playing for the club aged 13.

The club is a fully inclusive one, with boys and girls mixed teams, and over the last couple of years with girls Wildcats teams.

Chairman Chris Wilkinson said: " The starting back of a FTY kids club is great news. It's been missing for a few years, and it's great to have the chance to give children at that age the opportunity to be part of a team, make new friends and have as much fun as possible!"

Training is every Sunday at Frome Sports Centre - the field next to the astro pitches) from 10-11am.

Parking is available in the Sports Centre car park.

Start date: Sunday 4th October 2020.

All coaches are fully trained with first aid certificates, have undertaken safeguarding children workshops, and full DBS checks. The club is also a fully qualified FA Charter Standard club affiliated with Somerset FA.
