It was a big game for Frome Town Football Club today, with the pressure on right from the start.
But before kick off a minute's silence in honour of long term supporter Gerald Butland, whose funeral will be on January 30.
Two hundred and thirty three paying fans, braved the chilly weather to watch the Robins, who kicked and headed high, but also caused a few scary moments, particularly towards the end of the game, with some risky work.
The first goal came from Daniel Cottle, who later in the game showed considerable ducking and dodging skills.
The home team went into half time one nil up and then at 50 minutes the Wiltshire keeper took down a player, and it was a penalty by Number 17 Alex Monks, to put the reds ahead by two nil.But the game wasn't to bed, and Cirencester came back and when an ill advised tackle offered them a penalty, it was captain Michael Pook who took the board to 2:1.
The team had a fight on their hands from that moment, and it was with regret that a rash tackle from Monks at 75 minutes left him with a straight red card and off. The Wiltshire Centurians were certainly battling it out, getting close to goal a few too many times for the home crowd's comfort. But as the skies turned from red to dark, the home lines held and the final score Frome 2-1 Cirencester - so three points to Frome.Man of the match: Number two, Mark Cooper.
For the record books The Robins have met Cirencester seven times since 2014 and with the history, W4 D1 L2, with their biggest win a 4-1 win away back in 2016.
The next match is on Tuesday and guess what ? They are playing Cirencester Town again. So who knows will history be made? Don't forget - kids are free.
