Frome welcomed Royal Wootton Bassett this Sunday to The Lane, which was drenched in sunshine. The rugby, was just as good as the weather.

The game started with a bang, Harrie Webster collected the kick off, before feeding Aaron Worrell, who sprinted down the right hand wing. He was well tackled and the ball recycled. During the next phase Bassett came off their feet. A quick tap penalty from Alfie Newbery fed Zach Sibley, who passed flat to Archie Pearn, who ran clear to score under the posts. Pearn converting his own try.

Five minutes later, Frome flooded forwards with quick hands, followed by a strong ruck, which led to an attacking line-out. Scrum-half Newbery sniped from the line-out feeding Ewan Cox. Following a speedy ruck clear out, Aelfric Bidder picked up and crashed over from the five-meter line. Pearn converted to take the score to 14 - 0.

A third try followed, when Pearn dummied his opposite number on the halfway line. He then out paced three defenders brilliantly, to sprint home. The extra's were narrowly missed. Bassett would score next, after sustained pressure, they crashed over from a 5 meter scrum. The score was now 19 - 5.

Both Frome and Bassett traded attacking moves over the next few minutes, Greenwood and Rob Norris tackled fiercely on the half way line, forcing a knock-on. Frome edged up the field, with a series of scrums. Good hands from the backs, led to Ben Freeman to feed Webster, who ran a sharp diagonal line, to score well. Pearn added the conversion.

Bassett however, were not finished yet. A line-out following hands in the ruck from Frome, led to a powerful finish. With the conversion missed, the score was 26 - 10 at the break.

The second half began in a scrappy manner. Big tackles and counter-rucks from both teams kept the play on the half-way line. Frome edged forwards, initially through Oscar Wallis and Kieran Nutley carrying well, then a strong run from Sibley in the midfield. Frome took the three points, from a penalty under the posts.

Bassett again profited from a 5 meter scrum, five minutes later, crashing over out wide, from a number 8 pick up. With ten minutes left in the match, Alfie Rayers tackled, forcing a turnover in the opposition half. Norris picked up the loose ball and roared on by the home crowd, he handed off two players and galloped down the blind-side to score an excellent try in the corner.

The final score went to the travelling team, with their captain piling over from two metres out. The score finished Frome RFC 34 - 20 Royal Wootton Bassett RFC. A great game, enjoyed by an appreciative crowd, who cheered on in the warm sunshine.
