Events caterer The Occasional Kitchen has launched a new 'Pay it Forward' initiative to lift the spirits and fill the bellies of Frome's key workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Faye and Dave Penfold's regular business is on hold due to the lockdown and the couple have stepped up to support the local community.

For just £5, the not-for-profit scheme sees residents receive a nutritious home-made dinner for themselves...while also paying for another meal for a key worker.

With an online fundraising page topping £1,600, Faye and Dave already have enough in the kitty to provide 600 free meals for key workers - so they are now also asking people to nominate one of these coronavirus heroes to receive their nutritious dishes.

Faye told Frome Nub News: "We need to help those working tirelessly to protect us, in such weird and scary times, and we need to help each other.

"In times of crisis, Dave and I always come back to food; feed people and look after them, its all we've got.

"It's what we do, loving and looking after people and now we are doing it for the Frome community.

"These are horrible times and we are lucky to be living in such an incredibly supportive town.

"Our key workers are doing a selfless and wonderful job and we are inviting residents to show just how much they are valued.

"Between us we help keep their spirits up and their bellies full."

Key workers can also buy a meal for themselves, at cost, for £3 with the food delivered - adhering to Government guidance on social distancing - or collected.

Anyone who would like to nominate a key worker or support the 'Pay it Forward' initiative or key workers wanting to place an order should join their social page here

Orders for a meal are being taken on a Monday and Friday before 11am, or when the kitchen reaches capacity.

Anyone wanting to contribute to the online fundraiser can do so here their Go Fund Me site.

Donations will go towards running the scheme - such as purchasing food, packaging and reimbursing petrol money - and to pay additional staff to help deliver food.
