Frome's Walking Festival returned this month with a record turnout with more than 250 walkers and their families taking part.

Spanning the weekend, the festival kicked off with the ever-popular Tunnels Talk on the Friday evening at the Town Hall.

Even the torrential rain on the Saturday didn't put walkers off and Sunday brought the sunshine so families could enjoy the children's trails and a host of other walks.

Cllr Rich Ackroyd said: "We are so pleased that the weather didn't dampen the spirits at the Walking Festival, and it just goes to show how popular walking is in Frome.

"With the maps that Frome's Walkers are Welcome team along with Frome Town Council have developed, we hope to see more walkers exploring the town and surrounding area."

The festival also saw the unveiling of two markers which were kindly placed on the front of the Cheese and Grain.

These way-markers are for the Mendip Way and the Saxon Kings walks. The Mendip Way is an 80-kilometre long-distance footpath across the Mendip Hills from Weston-super-Mare to Frome and the Saxon Kings walk links Frome and Bath in honour of King Eadred and King Edgar.

The new signage allows for walkers to celebrate their fantastic walking efforts with a great photo opportunity.
