A familiar face in Frome, Gerald Franks has long been part of the town's; history.

So much so that he appeared in the audio series about the history of Frome. HERE talking about his decades working in and around town as a volunteer.

He was a long-standing helping hand to many organisations, and notably a volunteer special constable, working at Frome carnival days and at the Cheese show, and was instrumental in setting up the Frome and District Day Centre Lunch Club in 2000.

But it doesn't end there; He was also involved in St John's Ambulance for 25 years, although by trade he was a printer.

He was also often on duty on a Saturday night when the crowds came out of the Hexagon club, now Frome Assembly rooms. Keeping the peace was just part and parcel of his unpaid work which he talked about in the memories of Frome project.

Mr Franks, who died on December 25, was 92. His funeral is at 1.15pm on 19th January 2024 at St John's Church Frome.

All are welcome to the church, with family flowers only but all donations can be made via Adlams Funeral Directors, 68A locks Hill, Frome BA11 1NH to Royal British Legion.
