There was a lot of police activity in and around Marston Lane in Frome today (June 14) , but officers, who were supported by the air ambulance, have ruled out any activity involving firearms.

Armed officers were at the scene in the early afternoon, but later established that a witness, with "good intentions" was mistaken about there being a gun.

Eyewitnesses saw armed offices up close to the industrial estate in Frome and around Lower Keyford Lane. There was also the air ambulance hovering in the skies over Frome.

Their full statement is : " At 1.09pm today (Monday 14 June), we received information from a member of the public which caused us to have concern for the welfare of a woman in Frome.

"Due to the nature of this information, firearms officers were among the units to attend the scene.

"It's since been established this was a false alarm with good intent and no offences have been committed.

"We're now liaising with our partner agencies to ensure any necessary safeguarding support is provided."
