Frome Police Station has opened its knife amnesty box, revealing a haul of 85 items, including illegal and highly dangerous weapons.

The box, part of an ongoing initiative to reduce knife crime and improve public safety, allows residents to anonymously surrender blades and other weapons without fear of prosecution.

Police confirmed that some of the items collected posed significant risks to the community.

A photo released by the police shows three officers kneeling behind a striking array of weapons, including knives, machetes, and swords, all laid out on the floor. The variety and sheer number of weapons highlight the importance of such initiatives in preventing these items from causing harm.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We are encouraged by the number of items surrendered, as every weapon handed in is one less that could potentially cause harm. Some of the items retrieved were extremely dangerous and are now safely in our possession."

The amnesty box is part of a broader effort to tackle knife crime across the region. Police are urging anyone who owns a knife or weapon they no longer need or want to use the box to ensure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

The initiative will continue, with the station encouraging residents to play their part in making Frome safer.
