Last September Frome Town Council launched the community bunting project, with the goal of making 1,000 metres of re-purposed fabric bunting to brighten up the town for Frome's many community events such as the Carnival, Festival and more.
Several workshops have already taken place, and bunting has been made by local volunteers from donated fabric. Frome's Women's Shed, supported by the Town Council, have been leading the project and are looking to further help local groups and individuals to make a single pennant or a couple of metres by hosting several workshops over the next few months.
Being held by the Women's Shed at the Welshmill Hub on the following dates:
- Tuesday 10th March, from 2pm to 4pm
- Saturday 2nd May, from 10am to 2pm
- Tuesday 2nd June, from 10am to 2pm
Everyone is welcome to come along and have a go, all materials and equipment will be available on the day along with refreshments. This is a free activity but please book your place by visiting https://buytickets.at/frometowncouncil/348300
Cllr Sheila Gore said, "These workshops are a great opportunity to brush up on a forgotten skill or maybe try sewing for the first time! The bunting is going to look fantastic adorning the streets of Frome, something for the residents who take part in the workshops can be really proud of when they see their handiwork".
Additionally, on the morning of Tuesday 10th March from 10am – 2pm, the Women's Shed are also hosting a session to make Linus quilts and blankets. The Linus Project operates across the UK providing free washable cotton quilts and knitted blankets to sick babies, children and teenagers. The name stems from the Linus character in the Peanuts cartoon as he is often seen dragging his comfort blanket behind him. Again, no previous experience is necessary; lots of support, guidance and materials will be provided on the day. To book your space https://buytickets.at/frometowncouncil/348300
