A ten year old who trains in Frome has won a gold medal in Jiu-jitsu at a national competition.

Taya Jones was competing this weekend in the junior 2 lightweight category at the Junior National Championships 2023 in Wolverhampton.

Tara trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra in Frome up to four times a week under Professor Callum Swift, but she has only been working at the sport for a year and a half. But that hasn't meant she lacks success, having already won one gold at the British Open last year as white belt.

Tara, who travels from Gillingham to Frome for training, won this medal up against all those aged either ten or eleven and weighing in under 37.5kg.

Mum Danielle told Nub News : "We are very proud of Taya and how hard she trains. I recommend Gracie Barra Frome for children who would like to get into martial arts. Professor Callum and his team of coaches are fantastic "

Taya said she is not stopping any time soon : "I'm very pleased with my gold medal. I'm hoping to get a gold medal at the British Open in the grey belt division in May."
